Antoine Marie, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral researcher
CEVIPOF, Sciences Po Paris

I am a political psychologist with a background in social psychology, political science and cognitive science. I conduct cross-cultural experiments and develop theory to explore how people reason and communicate about divisive political topics.
I'm in particular interested in the following phenomena: fake news and conspiracy theories endorsement and spread, hostility between groups (political, racial, sex groups), how to make our political discussions and group relations more productive, the "dark side" of morality, the politicization of scientific topics, and the repression of speech on societal issues. My research emphasises that humans are group-based and moralistic, but also inclined to behave as 'intuitive activists' in contexts of threat and conflict.
I'm currently a postdoc researcher at the Center for Political Research (CEVIPOF), Sciences Po Paris, funded by an Agence Nationale de la Recherche "Access ERC" grant. I am operating as my own principal investigator on this grant, benefitting from Prof. Vin Arceneaux's mentorship. I submitted an ERC Starting grant in October 2025 proposing interventions against affective polarisation in France and the U.S.. Before that, I was a member of Institut Jean Nicod at Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, where I was working with Olivier Morin (CNRS), and a postdoc at Aarhus University, Denmark, under Michael Bang Petersen supervision. I did my Ph.D. at Ecole Normale Supérieure and Université Paris Cité (labs: CHArt and Institut Jean Nicod).

My research has been funded by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche, the German Max Planck Institute, the French Fondation des sciences sociales, and the Danish Carlsberg Foundation, among others.

I like amber beer (more than IPA), fixing bikes, tailoring second-hand clothes, artsy cinéma and documentaries, Thaï food, tennis, bouldering and a bunch of other stuff (that sounds a bit cliché).
